Jacob's 6th Birthday

Jacob is the consummate outdoorsman. He loves all things hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. He is the MOST PATIENT 6 year-old fisherman I have ever heard of; he can go hours without catching a fish and still be begging for more time to fish. He loves to elk hunt but has yet to grow into the job of cleaning and skinning them. He still keeps his distance for that part. He and Katherine are very good friends... the biggest problem they have in their relationship is when Katherine agrees to play "explorers" in exchange for playing "house" next and Jacob reneges before "house" has been properly pretended. Jacob takes much pleasure in teaching his siblings about everything he has learned regarding the outdoors, whether it is gun-safety or bait preferences. Jacob is also a great reader, often getting caught up in a book inspite of himself. He still rides a stick horse which he has named "Blaze" after the horse in the "Billy and Blaze" books. For his 6th birthday we had a campfire and then went fishing the next day. The pictures tell the story rather well.
